MUSCAT — The German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech) will host the world-famous Architectural Association from London (AA) for a two-week workshop on architectural design at GUtech. From September 4 – 15, design and architecture students as well as professionals are invited to join the second AA Visiting School Muscat 2012.
“The first AA Visiting School was a great success. The participants of the AA Visiting School are encouraged to think out of the box, and indeed they created exciting designs, which were acknowledged by the public in an exhibition on our GUtech campus. We are happy to continue this event with the second workshop at GUtech in September,” said Nikolaus Knebel, Associate Professor of Architectural and Urban Design at GUtech.
At this year’s AA Visiting School students and professionals will get a unique chance to see their designs being built. The programme aims at designing a pavilion for the new GUtech campus in Halban. The best design will then be planned further with a joint team of students and professionals.
“At the AA we have a tradition of building what we are talking about in real scale. Every year students design and build a pavilion in front of the AA premises in London. I am much looking forward to working on a similar pavilion project with students in Oman. We will look into new techniques of designing and building. Everyone from the design field is welcome — students and professionals,” said Omid Kamvari, Course Director of the AA visiting school in Muscat. The companies Areej Vegetable Oils Derivatives as well as Sadolin Paint generously support the project.
